Purpose of the trials
|
- This trial is for new Canna varieties, which is taken to mean any varieties
introduced in the past 10 years.
- Introducers and trial submitters may be amateur or professional.
- Entries can be submitted by persons other than the introducer.

| Qualities being judged:
|
Primarily, what is being judged is the decorative quality, which is a
combination of foliage and flower and the overall balance and poise of the total plant. In other words its garden-worthiness. Particular points which will be addressed:
|
- Distinctiveness compared to existing varieties
- Size, shape and colour of flower
- Number of florets per panicle
- Number of successive panicles per stem
- Presentation of the flower in relation to the foliage
- Foliage shape
- Plant shape
- Tillering

Judges:
|
- Judges will be either RHS qualified Judges or recognised Canna experts.
- There will also be "Peoples Judging" by e-mail/internet polls

| Trial timetable:
|
- Four (4) rhizomes of each variety will be submitted by the end of February 2008.
- All entries will be potted up on the 1st March 2008.
- Entries will be planted out on the 1st June 2008.
- The trial ends 31 October 2008.
- Seed pods will be removed before they mature.
- All rhizomes will be returned to the entrant during November 2008, if required

Information provided should preferably include:

- Name of variety
- Cultivar group
- Brief description of flower colour, foliage colour, height
- Year of introduction
- Photograph if available
- Seed parent if known
- Open pollination, or pollen parent if known
- Is the variety registered with the Canna International Cultivar
Registration Authority?
- Is the variety the subject of plant breeders rights?

Making an entry:
|
- Entry is free, and any number of varieties may be entered
- To make an entry, simply post the 4 rhizomes and the information listed above to the address shown on the Contact page, also supplying your name and a return address if you wish to have the rhizomes returned on closing of the trial.
- If more than one variety is being submitted, then please ensure that they are individually documented, identified and separate in the parcel to avoid entry confusion.

Disputes
|
The decisions of the trial organisers are final. By making an entry the entrant is deemed to have accepted all of the above rules, terms and conditions.
